CALASIAO–Former President Joseph Estrada, who was in town last week campaigning for his presidential candidacy, said he will not make the same mistakes that led him to step away from the presidency in 2000.

He pledged that if elected a second time and should his political rivals again attempt to force him out of office, “they will have to do it over my dead body.” Estrada said as much to newsmen at a press conference held at Pangasinan Regency Hotel.

Estrada was ousted by a peaceful revolt put up by the people following an impeachment proceeding before the Senate.

Leading his Puwersang Masa political party, Estrada was accompanied in a campaign sorties around the province by his vice presidential running mate Makati City Mayor Jejomar Binay and his senatorial candidates: Senators Juan Ponce Enrile and Jinggoy Estrada, former Senator Francisco Tatad and Jose de Venecia III.

At the same time, the former president said even at this time he still fears a possible failure of the election.

He said he manifested his fears when he attended the National Security Council meeting in Malacanang that discussed, among others, moves to stop the continuous hacking of government websites.

Estrada also said of the 80,000 automated machines contracted for delivery for the computerized election, only 60,000 have so far been delivered.

He also said none of the teachers on poll duty during the first automated election in the country has been trained so far.–LM
