Alaminos in watchlist questioned

ALAMINOS officials have questioned why the city why has been included as among the places in the province placed under the watchlist of the Philippine National Police (PNP) and the Comelec.

Mayor Hernani Braganza noted the development comes alongside the sudden change in the designation of a new city police chief whom he did not approve of.

He stressed that Alaminos, a popular tourist destination for its Hundred Islands National Park, remains peaceful and orderly.

Provincial Election Officer Reddy Balarbar explained that Alaminos, like several other towns and cities, was included in the watchlist because of intense political rivalries in the area.

EXCLUSION VS. 500 VOTERS

Meanwhile, the camp of Mayor Braganza has filed an inclusion and exclusion proceeding before the City Court of Alaminos to sort out the city’s voters’ list, which is suspected to be padded with some 500 non-resident voters.

Braganza said they suspect that some 500 persons from Bolinao town registered in at least seven barangays in Alaminos.

Speaking at the KBP Forum on Thursday in Dagupan, Braganza said the party also asked the local Comelec to finalize the list of voters so that they can have time to verify the list and challenge those they believe are non-residents.

There are now some 39,000 voters in the city, from only 33,000 in the 2007 election.—LM
