BASISTA—A school principal was gunned down by still unidentified suspects late morning of Jan. 7 along a road in Barangay Navatat here on his way to his office in neighboring Urbiztondo town.

The victim was identified as Herminigildo Sabangan, 57, school principal of Urbiztondo National High School.

According to witnesses, two men riding in tandem shot Saba-ngan, who sustained three gun shot wounds in his torso, right side of his body and right arm.

Sabangan was rushed to the Rural Health Unit here but was declared dead on arrival.

Senior Inspector Renato Solomon, police chief here, said the weapon used was a caliber .45 based on one empty shell recovered by the police at the crime scene.

Solomon said the killing could be work-related but the police are not discounting other possible angles.

Sabangan had been receiving death threats and was the subject of a protest rally by students, parents and teachers in his school.#
