SAN CARLOS CITY—Students of the Binalatongan Community College will soon have their own campus with the approval of a P5 million fund for the construction of its first building with three classrooms.

The fund comes from the city government, which owns the college that offers an almost free tertiary education to poor but deserving students.

Mayor Julier Resuello, who is also the chairman of the board of the school, said the bidding for the project is being undertaken to ensure that construction can start before the ban on infrastructure projects in line with the election in May.

The classrooms will be built within the compound of the Doña Eva Macapagal School complex, named after the mother of President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo

Resuello said he is also optimistic getting the P10-million fund the city has asked from the President for the construction of more classrooms.

The community college, which currently has about 130 students taking up Bachelor of Science courses in Education and Information Technology, has been holding classes in classrooms borrowed from public schools under the Department of Education.

Its first batch of graduates will be recognized on March 2011.

The school, currently exclusive to those from San Carlos City, intends to add vocational courses in its program.

The school charges only P1,500 per semester for every student, some of whom have scholarships solicited by Resuello from San Carlenans residing in the United States

The college was initially ran by the Casillan Foundation and later turned over to the city government, which sought accreditation from the Commission on Higher Education and   recognition from a local colleges association.#
