Pogo Grande wins Belen contest in Dagupan
BARANGAY Pogo Grande bagged the top prize in the “May Belen sa Barangay” contest, one of the activities during the Dagupan Fiesta.
It was also awarded the special prize for the “most beautiful nativity scene” among all the 31 barangays in the city.
Pogo Grande Barangay chairman George Galvan and members of his barangay council received the sum total of P45,000 cash award from Mayor Alipio Fernandez Jr. and Vice Mayor Belen Fernandez, assisted by Councilor Karlos Reyna during the fiesta’s Barangay Night held at the city plaza on December 27.
Barangay Lasip Grande bagged the first runner-up prize of P25,000 and the special award of P15,000 for the “most innovative nativity scene”.
Poblacion Oeste was second runner-up.
Four barangays tied for the third runner up spot and received P5,000 each. These are Lucao, Bolosan, Tebeng and Salisay, which was adjudged as having the “most resourceful nativity scene”.
One of the requirements for the contest is the use of indigenous materials.
Members of the board of judges included Pangasinan Environment and Natural Resources Officer Wendy Co and Marbin Nasal, president of the Pangasinan Salesmen Association (PASA).
The contest, which was on its third year of being a feature of the Dagupan City Fiesta, is aimed at highlighting the Catholic tradition of setting up a nativity scene in commemoration of the birth of Christ and promote creativity and unity among the city’s barangay communities.–LM
