VOTERS in Pangasinan, which has one of the highest populations in the country, now total 1.628 million with 6,190 new registrants added during the five-day extension for registration of voters.

Atty. Reddy Balarbar, provincial election supervisor, said the number of new registrants was actually lower than expected.

He said the provincial office of the Commission on Election (Comelec) projected an average of 200 registrants per day, but there were days when none were recorded.

“Maybe this number is all who really wanted to participate in the 2010 elections because they had been given all the chances in the past to enlist,” he said.

The five-day extended registration was based on a petition of a youth group granted by the Supreme Court.#
