Belen takes over as Al files leave
VICE Mayor Belen Fernandez has assumed as acting mayor of Dagupan as Mayor Alipio Fernandez Jr. takes a nine-day leave starting January 6.
Mayor Fernandez, however, won’t be on full holiday mode in the United States with his wife as he has scheduled meetings with members of the US-based Dagupan associations to promote the Dagupan Bangus Festival in April.
The vice mayor said the mayor felt that he needed some rest after his hectic schedule during the annual fiesta alongside the Christmas and New Year celebrations.
Vice Mayor Fernandez, chair of the Bangus Festival for 3 successive years, said officials of Milpitas City in California led by Mayor Robert Livengood have already committed to making an official visit to Dagupan during the Bangus Festival.
Milpitas is a sister city of Dagupan since 2004.
PROCESSING PLANT
At the same time, Acting Mayor Fernandez revealed that the P100-million Seafood Processing Plant in Sitio Russia, Bonuan Binloc will definitely begin operation before the Bangus Festival.
The project is now under construction and the machinery for the plant is now in a pier in Manila, being held by customs officials pending payment of P1 million in custom duties.
The acting Mayor said that Mayor Fernandez has negotiated with proper government agencies for the machinery, sent by the Korean government as part of the grant for the project, to be released free from custom taxes.—LM
