VILLASIS–The 101 Ways to Cook Talong book produced by this town is set to be launched on January 15 in time for this year’s Talong Festival.

The recipes in the book were lifted from the winning recipes entered in the town’s cookfests over the last four years celebration of the town’s annual Talong Festival.

“This talong cookbook will prove to all that indeed this elongated, purple-colored vegetable that has made our town synonymous with it, can be cooked in unlimited ways,” said Dita Abrenica, wife of Mayor Nonato Abrenica, who regularly chaired the Talong Cookest.

“What will make the book launching more significant and interesting is the preparation of the winning recipes will be presented by the winners themselves, and the sampling of these by guests,” Abrenica added.

Aside from the winning entries, the book also includes recipes for some popular and new dishes using eggplant as the main ingredient.

The book launching will be followed by the “Pinakbet sa Kawa” event where the town’s 21 barangays will jointly cook and share pinakbet, a popular Ilocano dish that uses eggplant as one of its main ingredients.

Other fiesta highlights include the annual street dancing competition.

Villasis, a first class municipality with a 56,00 population, is an agricultural town that has 12 of its 21 barangays engaged in eggplant production.#
