LINGAYEN–The provincial government extended P620,000 cash in financial assistance to the families of the 62 people who died when typhoon “Pepeng” struck the province in October.

Each family received P10,000 in cash and one sack of rice, donated by Oriental Mindoro province through Governor Arnan Panganiban.

Governor Amado Espino Jr. said the financial aid is the least the local government could do to help ease the pain of those who lost loved-ones in the calamity.

“Maliit na tulong lamang ito kumpara sa mga nawala sa inyo at sa sakit na naramdaman ninyo sa pagkawala ng inyong mahal sa buhay,” Espino said.

The governor added that the provincial government will also help the families in reconstructing their damaged houses.

Seventeen of the fatalities from the third and fourth districts of the province drowned at the height of the flooding, which has been considered the worst in Pangasinan’s recent history.

The towns of Bayambang and Mangaldan had the most number of deaths.

Out of Pangasinan’s 44 towns and four cities, 36 towns and three cities were flooded.

The financial assistance was sourced from the funds of the Provincial Social Welfare and Development Office (PSWDO) and the Provincial Disaster Coordinating Council (PDCC).
