Relief of Agno Flood Control manager sought
LINGAYEN–The provincial board is not taking the snub of the project manager of the Agno Flood Control System Office (AFCSO) lightly.
In a resolution passed Monday, the board is calling for the immediate relief of Philip Meñez, a director at the Department of Public Works and Highways head office, as AFCSO project manager, after failing to appear at appointed meetings three times.
“His (Meñez’s) personal disregard of legal invitations by the legislative body of the province is contumacious, an act of disrespect and discourtesy, if not indifference, to the welfare and interest of Pangasinan and its inhabitants,” said 6th District Board Member Alfonso Bince Jr. who sponsored the resolution.
Meñez was invited to discuss the causes of the big flooding in Pangasinan in early October and to suggest possible remedial measures.
Bince noted that the National Power Corporation and the San Roque Power Corporation sent representatives during the initial meeting set on Oct. 26 was presided by Gov. Amado Espino Jr. except Meñez.
Meñez was invited again on Nov. 16 and Dec. 7 but again ignored without any explanation.
Bince said Meñez but could have at least sent a representative to help the provincial government define the steps to be taken to avoid a repeat of the massive flooding in the province.
The board will send a copy of the resolution seeking Meñez’s relief to Public Works Acting Secretary Victor Asis Domingo. #
