Lomibao backs out

ASSISTANT Secretary Arturo Lomibao, chief of the Land Transportation Office (LTO), who was considered to be a serious contender in the 4th District congressional race, has backed out from the fight.

Lomibao, from Mangaldan town, was touted to be a serious threat to Gina de Venecia, wife of Rep. Jose de Venecia Jr.

In a letter addressed to friends and supporters circulated at 3:00 p.m. on Tuesday, the deadline for the filing of certificates of candidacy, Lomibao said: “I have decided not to run for congressman of the 4th district of Pangasinan. I have arrived at this decision after consultation with my leaders, family and friends.”

This was the second time that Lomibao withdrew from a political race. In 2007, he also backed out from his candidacy in support of his wedding godfather, then Speaker Jose de Venecia Jr., who was running for his final term of office in Congress.

Lomibao said his withdrawal was a painful decision to make, citing how tirelessly his supporters had worked, hoping that together “we can march onward to victory”.

“But  there comes a point in time when decisions had to be made after ma-king an assessment of one’s chances. Thus, I have decided to forego with my intention to run and just concentrate on my work and my family,” he said.—LM
