Biskeg fields 287 candidates for local posts
BISKEG na Pangasinan, the only provincial party here accredited by the Commission on Election, is fielding 287 candidates for various local positions, from the governor to councilors.
Undersecretary Antonio Villar Jr, founding chairman of the party, said most of its candidates are either incumbent or seeking higher posts, and in some instances, some op posing each other.
Leading the slate is Gov. Amado Espino Jr. who is seeking re-election.
Oscar Lambino, who has previously served as vice governor, and Mapandan Mayor Jose Ferdinand Calimlim Jr, both original members of the party, are both running for vice governor.
Biskeg has nine candidates for congressman and 11 for board members in the six congressional districts.
For mayoralty candidates, there are 24 and for vice mayor, 31.
Villar said the party has yet to endorse its candidates for national positions, including president, vice president and senators.
“What is interesting here is our most of our candidates have their national party affiliations like Lakas-Kabalikat ng Malayang Pilipino-Christian Muslim Democrats, Nationalist People’s Coalition, Nacionalista Party, Liberal Party, Partido ng Masang Pilipino and Aksyon Demokratiko,” he added.
He said despite their candidates’ diverse party affiliations, they are united somehow under the Biskeg banner.
Under Comelec rules, a candidate may run under one national party and one local party.#
