PANGASINAN’s top amateur cyclists will show their wares anew against the best from nearby provinces in the 3rd Bataoil-Garcia Cup cycling race on December 20.

The bikefest, principally sponsored by retired police director Leopoldo N. Bataoil, will start and finish in barangay Buenlag, Mangaldan, traversing parts of Dagupan City, Binmaley, Lingayen, Labrador via barangay Domalandan, Bugallon via barangay Magtaking, Aguilar, Mangatarem, Urbiztondo, Basista via barangay Bayaoas, Magtaking junction (San Carlos City), Malasiqui, Sta. Barbara for a total distance of 120 kilometers approximately.

The race will start at 11:30 a.m. and will be run in two categories: one for 23 years old and below with maximum of 50 participants, and the master-executive division for 40 years old and above.

Cash prizes amounting to P72,000 plus trophies and medals are up for grabs.

“We are staging this cycling event because it is one of the favorite sports of Pangasinenses. We have to give the young ones a chance to show their mettles anew, hone their skills for their bigger competitions next year like the national championships and the annual Tour,” said Bataoil.

“Our other objective is to educate our boys to be athletic, always busy in their chosen career and to stay away from the drug menace that is afflicting our country today,” he added.

The road battle will be aired live over DZRD Sonshine Radio 981 AM Khz starting from 1:00 p.m. up to the end of the race.–JAGJr.
