THE University of Luzon women’s volleyball team beat the lady spikers of the Pangasinan Merchant Marine Academy (PMMA) twice in the best-of-three games of the Dagupan Women’s National Collegiate Athletic Association Region 1 volleyball championship.

In the first game held at the PMMA gym, the UL team bested its opponent in four sets.  The UL ladies repeated their victory in just three sets during the second game held at their home court at the Don Luis Samson Estadio with a score of 25-14, 27-25 and 25-31.

Serato Gonimil, UL sports coordinator, said the win earned for the UL volleybelles the right to represent Dagupan City in the Private Schools Athletic Association regional meet slated in Lingayen next month.

The UL spikers are made up of team captain Angelie Samera, co-team captain Melanie Carrera, May Marcellones, Rachelle Ramos, Katherine Feliciano, Karimah Al Mowaled, Sabrina Decipulo, Mary Rose Rivera, Diane Nicolas, Dyan Joyce Eugenio, Cassandra Ledda and Mariesper Mrcellones.

The coach is former national volleyball player Ceasar Mondero.

City Councilor Luis “Chito” Samson, UL executive vice president, said: “I hope the winning ways of our women’s volleyball team will all work like magic all the way to the Ilocos PRISAA regional meet.

If UL wins the championship in the regional PRISAA meet, it will represent Region 1 in the national games of the PRISAA to be held in Tacloban City early next year.–LM
