PPH patients increase by more than 100%
LINGAYEN–The number of patients admitted at the Pangasinan Provincial Hospital (PPH) has ballooned to an average of 365 a day this month from only 150 in previous months.
Dr. Policarpio Manuel, hospital assistant chief, said this is an indication that the people already acknowledge that services at the government-owned hospital have significantly improved.
The buildings and facilities of the PPH, located in San Carlos City, recently underwent major rehabilitation through the initiative of the administration of Gov. Amado Espino Jr.
Manuel, in an interview with The PUNCH, said 40% of the increasing numbers of patients are women giving birth.
The PPH, originally with a150-bed capacity, of which 50 are allotted for the obstetrician-gynecology section, has recently received additional beds.
Espino said he is happy about the reported increase in number of patients at the PPH and cited the improvements that have been made from what he described as “disgusting condition” of the 14 provincial government-owned hospitals when he assumed office in 2007.
“Ang mga pasyente talaga kawawa noon. Dalawang paseyente sa bawat kama na walang bed cover, walang bed sheet,” Espino said during his weekly Talakayan sa Kapitolyo.
In the provincial budget for this year, P357-million was allotted for health care services.
Espino said the provincial government is also securing more bank loans to fast track the implementation of other improvement projects in the hospitals.#
