More than 1.6 M Pangasinan voters in 2010
IF THE TREND continues, some 200,000 new voters will be added in the list of voters in Pangasinan by the end of the voters’ registration period on October 31 midnight.
Provincial Elections Supervisor Reddy Balarbar, speaking on Thursday during the weekly Kapisanan ng mga Brodkasters sa Pilipinas forum, said the new figure will represent a 13.7 percent increase % se the existing 1,454, 473 number of registered voters in the province, one of the highest in the country.
“As of September 2009, the number of new registrants already reached 142,615 but with the figure for the whole month of October still to be added, the target 200,000 plus new voters could easily be realized,” said Balarbar.
He added this is assuming that each of the 44 towns and four cities of Pangasinan registered at least 1,000 voters each from October 1 to 31.
With the additional registrants and the exclusion of those already deceased as well as those who have long gone abroad and have not voted in previous polls, “the final count could end up at a safe figure of more or less 1.6 million,” Balarbar added.
In Dagupan, City Election Officer Remarque Ravanzo said as of September, the number of registered voters already reached more than 88,000 and the number could reach 90,000 by the end of the registration period.
