Ilocos cops on alert for “Undas”

CAMP BGEN OSCAR M FLORENDO, La Union–The police force in the Ilocos Region is on full alert for the duration of the observance of All Saints’ Day and All Souls’ Day on November 1 and 2 (locally known as undas).

Chief Superintendent Ramon Gatan, regional police director, has ordered the augmentation of route security, traffic management and preventive patrol operations in the provinces of Ilocos Norte, Ilocos Sur, Pangasinan and La Union.

Undas is a yearly activity during which we expect heavy traffic jams in our thoroughfares and congestion in commercial centers, public markets, cemeteries and other places of convergence we need to double our efforts to ensure a peaceful and orderly observance of undas,” Gatan said.

Gatan added that the Region 1 police, as in previous years, will tap the support of other government agencies, non-government organizations and volunteer groups in providing security coverage and public safety services, including motorist assistance along major highways and traffic management along routes leading to cemeteries.

“In every province, there is a designated member of the Regional Directorial Staff who will supervise the various public safety activities in coordination with the Provincial Directors of Police Provincial Offices,” he advised.

The designated supervisor in the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd Districts of Pangasinan is P/Supt. Amando Lagiwid, while P/Sr. Supt. Eduardo Dopale will handle the 4th, 5th and 6th Districts.

RE-ROUTING

Meanwhile, the Pangasinan police announced the implementation of a traffic-rerouting scheme as part of its preparations for undas.

Motorists can expect police visibility provided along three alternate routes from Manila to La Union and Baguio and vice-versa.

The first option is Rosales-Villasis-Sta Barbara-Mangaldan-San Fabian- Damortis; the second, Rosales-Villasis-Urdaneta City-Manaoag-San Jacinto-Mangaldan-San Fabian-Damortis; and the third option is Binalonan-Laoac-Manaoag-San Jacinto-Mangaldan-San Fabian-Damortis.-LM
