Cost-efficiency: CSI’s secret of success
MAKE your operation cost-efficient.
This was the advice of Dagupan City Vice Mayor Belen Fernandez to local businessmen, citing the experience of her own firm, the CSI Group of Companies, which is considered as the price leader in Region 1.
“By being cost-efficient, we were able to lower the prices of our commodities and plow back part of our earnings to the people in terms of community service and involvement,” she said.
The Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) regional office recently cited CSI’s role as a price stabilizer in the region, noting how traders in the region use the CSI prices as benchmark.
CSI operates malls and supermarkets in Pangasinan as well as in San Fernando, La Union, the Ilocos region and Baguio City.
DTI Regional Director Florante Leal said traders admit they watch the price levels at CSI to keep their prices competitive.
Following typhoon “Pepeng” last month, CSI asked suppliers for additional discounts that could be passed on to retailers and consumers.
Fernandez cited the lower price of canned milk, which can be expected to remain stable at least until the end of November.
“I am from Dagupan, the people know me as the vice mayor, so I have to lead in keeping prices of commodities at the minimum level”, she said.
In Pangasinan, CSI operates supermarkets in Malasiqui, Urdaneta, San Carlos City, Alaminos City and Bayambang and is now putting up branches in Mangaldan and Tayug.—LM
