Agat Bridge in Sison now partially open
SISON–Travel for light vehicles between Pangasinan and La Union via the flood-damaged Agat Bridge, across the Bued River, is now possible following installation of a temporary bridge, the Office of Civil Defense (OCD) regional office announced.
However, the temporary structure only has a one-way lane and vehicular traffic from both directions will be set in turns.
Construction of the temporary bridge, strengthened by a timber pedestal installed in the mid-section of the old bridge, was already 100 percent complete as of Thursday.
The temporary bridge is expected to provide some relief to the expected high volume of traffic flow during the observance of All Saints’ Day on November 1.
Heavy vehicles of more than 10 tons are advised to take the detour roads from Tarlac to Pangasinan via Camiling then proceed to Mangatarem, Bugallon, Lingayen, Dagupan, Mangaldan, San Fabian, Pangasinan and Damortis, La Union.
Other heavy vehicles may take the road to Carmen, then to Villasis, Urdaneta, Manaoag, San Jacinto, Mangaldan and San Fabian and all the way to Damortis, La Union.
Those originating from Binalonan may take Binalonan, Laoac, Manaoag, San Jacinto, San Fabian-Damortis Road and those from Sison and Pozorrubio towns may take the Pozorrubio, Manaoag, San Jacinto, Mangaldan, San Fabian then Damortis Road.
Meanwhile, the OCD also reported that the scoured slope protection works/hanging bridge approach at the Carayungan Bridge of the San Nicolas-Natividad-San Quintin-Umingan-Guimba Road is not yet passable to all types of vehicles.
All other national roads in Pangasinan are now passable.—LM
