Sual wants own rescue center
SUAL–The local government and the townsfolk here have decided to take the bull by its horns and be more proactive in protecting their lives and properties.
They are setting up the Sual Rescue Command Center to respond and to assist in emergency situations. The plan initially calls for constructing a building that will house the police station, the fire department and teams of paramedics, and training facilities.
Mayor John Rodney Arcinue told The PUNCH that the planned building alone will cost the municipal government about P6.9 million. No real estimate has so far been established for the purchase of equipment and to cover costs of training of personnel.
The coastal town and neighboring towns in western Pangasinan have been severely damaged by a series of typhoons over the past year.
“The center can be expected to respond effectively in any given crisis situation in our town,” the mayor said.
Patterned after the services provided by Rescue 911 in the US, the center will be supported by the Coast Guard and Maritime, he added.
Two of the town’s ambulances have already been deployed to Metro Manila to take part in the rescue and relief operations for victims of tropical storm Ondoy.
The same ambulances and personnel have already responded to several emergency cases in the town and neighboring communities.
The center’s local hotlines are 5488888 or cellular phone number 09291856888.
The mayor said he was prompted to initiate the project because of the town’s tragic experience when Typhoon Cosme hit, similar to that experienced by Ondoy victims. -#
