Milpitas City officials set to join Bangus Fests
Officials of Milpitas City, sister city of Dagupan, led by Mayor Robert Livingood are set to visit the city next year in time for the Bangus Festival 2010.
This was reported on Friday by Vice Mayor Belen Fernandez to Mayor Alipio Fernandez Jr. upon her return from the United States where she signed the renewal of the sisterhood agreement between Milpitas and Dagupan City two weeks ago in Milpitas City.
The Milpitas officials are arriving to reciprocate the goodwill visit of Dagupan to their city, the vice mayor said.
She said the visiting Milpitas officials may arrive at about the same time as the hundreds of Dagupenos based in various parts of the U.S. who have also indicated their excitement to come home for the Bangus Festival.
Meanwhile, many overseas DagupeƱos are already reportedly booked for their flights to Manila in time for the city’s celebration of the annual fiesta in December, and avail of the Pawil Dagupan Program.
Fernandez said Mayor Livingood and members of Milpitas City council expressed their enthusiasm over the renewal of the sisterhood agreement for five years.
They found an emotional connection and bonding with Dagupan because the American Liberation Forces led by General Douglas Mac Arthur landed in the city in January 1945.
The vice mayor, City Administrator Alvin Fernandez and Councilor Farah Decano were briefed on how Milpitas manages its wastes and on how it deals with cybercrimes.
She said Dagupenos from Milpitas personally accompanied them to Milpitas city hall.
The Dagupan delegation, joined later by Councilor Karlos Reyna, promoted the Pawil Dagupan Program during the Dagupan City Fiesta in December and the Bangus Festival to Dagupenos based in San Francisco, New York, Los Angeles and San Diego.
The city officials met with members of Bonuan and Dagupan associations in San Diego and the Dagupan Association of Southern California headed by Mrs. Precy Dimapilis.-LM
