JdV brings home 10 rubber boats
AFTER receiving reports that Pangasinan has only two rubber boats, Fourth District Rep. Jose de Venecia Jr., who was in Thailand last Thursday, called on his friends abroad to donate rubber boats for his district and the province.
De Venecia said first to respond to his call for help were members of parliament of South Korea who raised funds among themselves to buy 10 brand new rubber boats with engines.
He said the rubber boats came from the coastal city of Inchon in South Korea which were loaded into a Korean Airline flight that arrived at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport Saturday night.
The rubber boats were quickly transported to the province and deployed to the following areas: one each for Dagupan, Mangaldan, San Fabian, San Jacinto and Manaoag; one each for Congressman Mark Cojuangco, Rep. Victor Agbayani, Mayor Julier Resuello and San Carlos City and Governor Amado Espino Jr. at their disposal for continuing rescue and relief operations.
De Venecia said the donation was coordinated by Lee Hyu, Michael Zablan and Raul Caballero of the Universal Peace Federation and business leaders Fernando Peña and Paul Kim.
He said there he expects more rubber boats coming to arrive as pledged by his friends who are members of parliaments of China, Thailand and Malaysia.
The use of a rubber boat has become the most essential equipment demanded by local government units during when flooding occurs. -LM
