GSIS emergency loans open to Pangsinan members

The Government Service Insurance System (GSIS) said members in Pangasinan affected by tropical storm “Ondoy” can apply for emergency loans starting October 1.

The emergency loan-worth P20, 000 is available to eligible members working in government offices located in areas declared by the National Disaster Coordinating Council as under “state of calamity.”

The emergency loan can be availed of in any GSIS Wireless Automated Processing System kiosk or G-W@PS kiosk, 8 am to 8 pm. using eCard Plus.

The loan bears an interest rate of eight percent per year and payable in equal monthly installment for a term of three years.

Qualified members have until October 31, 2009 to submit their loan application.

To qualify, the applicant must:  be a bonafide employee of the government office within the declared calamity area; in active service and not on leave of absence without pay; have no pending criminal or administrative charges; have no arrearages in payment of mandatory social insurance contributions; and no loan that has been declared in default.

Non-permanent employees, including co-terminus, casual, contractual, temporary can apply as long as they have at least three years of continuous service and that they are in active duty.

In addition, the agency of the applicant must not be suspended due to non-payment and non-remittance of premiums and loans.  If the member-applicant still has an outstanding emergency loan, this will be deducted from the proceeds of the new loan.
