Dagupan council to question NPC on dam water release
AFTER the Senate, local legislative bodies race to likewise question officials of the San Roque Power Corporation (SRPC) and National Power Corporation (NPC) on the release of huge volume of excess water from the San Roque Dam at the height of Typhoon “Pepeng”.
The Dagupan City Council has set its own fact-finding investigation in aid of legislation on the matter, and invited officials of the two agencies to appear on Monday.
The flood submerged all of the 31 barangays in the city by 4 to 12 feet deep.
Councilor Jose Netu Tamayo said Vice Mayor Belen Fernandez has invited officials of the two agencies to determine why the city was inundated despite earlier assurances that releasing of excess water from the dam would not cause flooding in the city.
The Dagupan City Water District officials will also be asked to answer complaints from subscribers why water service was disrupted during and after the flood even when electricity was already restored.
A possible class suit is an option, said Tamayo, considering the damages and losses suffered by city residents and businessmen.—LM
