Suspect in abduction of mayor’s kin arrested

MANGALDAN–Another suspect in the kidnapping of a grandson of the mayor here was arrested by local police elements in Manila on Sept. 20.

Supt. Roberto Vocal, police chief here, told The PUNCH that elements of the Mangaldan police caught Arnold Fernandez, 21, single, resident of Barangay Salay here for taking part in the abduction of   an eight-year old grandson of Mayor Herminio Romero.

Fernandez is the sixth suspect arrested for the crime.

Elements of Police Anti Crime Emergency Response earlier arrested Russel Ydia, former driver of the mayor, dismissed policeman Jesse Aquino and Oscar Tiosen and recovered part of the ransom money.

Two brothers of Fernandez, Domingo and Rudy, were also taken into police custody in July.

The suspects initially demanded a P3-million ransom for the release of the victim but the pay off was reduced to P510, 000 after negotiations.

The victim was released unharmed.

The suspects are detained at the Bureau of Jail Management and Penology in Dagupan City while awaiting trial. #
