LINGAYEN— Combined elements of various police divisions seized loose firearms and arrested four suspected criminals on Tuesday in Alcala town.

The police operation was conducted by virtue of four search warrants issued by Judge Ulysses Butuyan of the Regional Trial Court Branch 51 in Tayug, Pangasinan against Dionisio Castillo Jr., Cornelio Jose, Rodrigo Libed, and Rodrigo Oliferes, all of Alcala town.

In his report, Pangasinan Provincial Director P/Sr. Supt Percival Barba disclosed that a caliber 9mm Taurus pistol and an M16 armalite rifle, both loaded with live ammunition, were seized from Castillo in Barangay San Juan, while a .45 pistol, a caliber 9mm Taurus pistol, two shotguns, an M16 armalite rifle, and various ammunition, were confiscated separately from Jose, Libed and Oliferes, all residents of Barangay Sinabaan. Only 9mm was licensed.

The four will be charged with illegal possession of firearms and ammunition.

P/Chief Supt Ramon Gatan, PRO1 Regional Director, congratulated the police operatives for the major accomplishment, saying that it is imperative to cleanse the region of loose firearms, especially that the May 2010 election is approaching.

The groups involved in the operation include the Regional Mobile Group 1, the 107th Provincial Mobile Group, Alcala Police Station, Sta. Barbara Police Station and the Special Operations Group of the Pangasinan Police Provincial Office.

Gatan also encouraged the public to take advantage of the nationwide gun amnesty program that will start on October 1 until 30, but he added that the PNP is now accepting and processing gun amnesty applications in line with the government’s National Firearms Control Program.–LM
