THE INA Foundation headed by Mrs. Gina de Venecia, wife of 4th District Rep. Jose de Venecia Jr., strongly condemned the transfer to Spain of one of the convicted criminals in the abduction, rape and murder of two sisters from Cebu in 1997.

Speaking over Bombo Radyo-Dagupan on Thursday, Mrs. De Venecia Jr. rallied mothers in Pangasinan and various parts of the country to protest the transfer of Francisco Juan “Paco” Larranaga to Spain.

Larranaga was among those convicted in 2004 for the abduction, rape and slaying of sisters Marijoy and Jacqueline Chiong.

The Larranaga family is reportedly a close ally of the President.

INA, a foundation for mothers bereaved by the death of their children, said the Arroyo administration and the Department of Justice made a mockery of the decision made by the highest court of the land by this move.

The crime happened on July 16, 1997 when the two sisters were abducted by sons of prominent and influential families in Cebu while they were waiting for their vehicle,

Marijoy was then 20 years old and Jacqueline, 22.

Two days later, on July 18, 1997, the body of Marijoy was found at the bottom of a steep ravine in Carcar, Cebu. The autopsy revealed that she was brutally raped, killed and thrown alive off a cliff with her head wrapped in masking tape.

Jacqueline’s body has not been found to this day. —LM
