Gina de V ready for 2010 political battle
GINA de Venecia is all psyched up for her entry into the political arena as a candidate for 4th district representative race in the May 2010 election.
Gina said she is ready to face whoever will also seek the position that will be vacated by her husband, Jose de Venecia Jr., who is serving his third and last term.
“Handa naman ako kahit sino ang kalaban. Ang masasabi ko lang, kung ang military ay prepared ‘to rule’, ang mga De Venecia naman ay prepared ‘to serve’,” she said hinting on her possible battle with Land Transportation chief Arturo Lomibao, a retired police general who has expressed intent to run for the same position.
She referred to herself as a “modern Princess Urduja”, the fabled heroin of Pangasinan during the Spanish colonization, who will be ready to play the “game of the generals”.
Gina, who served as president of the Congressional Spouses Foundation Inc. since her husband served as Speaker of the House of Representatives, said she is now determined to win despite her initial reluctance to join politics.
Over the weekend, after speaking before various groups at their residence in Bonuan Binloc in Dagupan, she sang, “I will survive”, prompting the audience to dance along.
Gina said it will be her battle cry in her pursuit of politics.
She, however, has yet to decide under which political party she will run following the row within the Lakas-Kabalikat ng Kampi-Christian Muslim Democrats. Her husband was among the founders of the original Lakas.
“Ang partido ko partido ng panalo,” she said.
In the meantime, with the elections still nine months away, Gina said she will continue to assist her husband in his projects for the district. #
