Eleven Bolinao fishermen rescued by Vietnamese vessel
BOLINAO—Eleven fishermen from this town earlier reported as missing were rescued by a Vietnemese fishing vessel Thursday morning at the South China Sea near Ilocos Sur.
Wilfredo Castelo, municipal administrator of Bolinao, in a phone interview with The PUNCH said the 11 rescued fishermen were brought by the crew of the Vietnamese ship to the Philippine Coast Guard office based in Poro Point in La Union on the same afternoon.
“We are thankful that they are all alive,” Castelo said.
The rescued fishermen are Jeffrey Gonzaga, 30, operator of the fishing vessel MB Marvin; Orlando Fernandez, 48; Junifer Javier, 31; Eduardo Suarez, 43; Reymark Suarez, 14; Dennis Cabulbol, 29; Alfie Gagarao, 18; Alico Caiga Jr., 38; Enoy Gabriel; Ronald Alcantara, 18; and Dannyboy Carig, 18. They are all residents of Barangay Balingasay.
The fishermen went out to fish off the coast of Bolinao last September 5 and were caught by heavy rains spawned by tropical storm Maring. —CSR
