CSI, Magic companies expanding to Tayug

TAYUG–The CSI Group of Companies and Magic Group of Companies appear to be in a race for constructing their respective branches here, undaunted by the presence of SM City Rosales just a few kilometers away.

Mayor Carlos Trese Mapili said Magic has already started constructing it’s building while CSI recently secured a building permit for its branch in another part of the town.

Mapili said the coming of the two retail business giants from Dagupan indicates confidence in the economic prospects of their second-class town.

“I asked the question to executives of CSI and Magic why they want to expend to Tayug despite the presence of SM in Carmen and they told me that hey have high hopes that their business will grow bigger in Tayug,” said Mapili during last week’s Engkwentro sa Lenox breakfast forum of the Pangasinan Press Club.

Tayug, remembered as the seat of the infamous Colorum Uprising in 1935 involving agrarian conflict, has developed as the trading center in the eastern part of Pangasinan.

Mapili said while their town has remained largely agricultural, there is no longer any threat of unrest.

Mapili reported that Tayug has an annual income of P58 million, up from only P32 million when he took over the reins of the town government following the assassination of Mayor Guerrero Zaragoza about eight years ago.

He said that one of the priorities he set upon his assumption of office was the restoration of peace and order in the town.

Mapili expects Tayug to jump to first class standing within the next three years and may eventually apply for cityhood. —LM
