Abono keen on 1M signatures for Chiz
THE Abono partylist is just 100,000 short of its target one million signatures to push Senator Francis “Chiz” Escudero to run for president in 2010.
Engr. Rosendo So, Abono founding chairman, told The PUNCH in a phone interview that 900,000 signatures have so far been gathered, mostly from Pangasinan, where the partylist is based, and some from neighboring La Union and Ilocos Sur.
So said of the half a million members of Abono alone, 400,000 have so far signed.
He is optimistic they will hit their one million signatures target by October 10, the birthday of Escudero.
“As we said earlier, this might push him to run (for president) but the final decision is still his,” So added.
Escudero said he would officially declare his political plans for the presidency on his 40th birthday.
The Nationalist People’s Coalition is fielding either Escudero or Senator Loren Legarda as its standard bearer in 2010.#
