Tayug-Comelec gets 22,031 voters registered
TAYUG–The Municipal Election Office here has listed 22,031 registered voters as of July 27, a significant percentage for this town with a population of 40,000.
Anacleta Casimero, municipal election registrar, said registration is still ongoing and will last until October with the list expected to reach about 23,000.
Tayug is the first municipality in Pangasinan to have been authorized to conduct on-site registration by Provincial Elections Officer Reddy Balarbar.
The on-site registration was requested by barangay chairman Wilma Gozon of Barangay Gozon, which is across the Agno River.
Gozon said she made the request to ensure that her constituents will not be discouraged about registering if they still had to make the river crossing.
Bringing along with them the biometric machines, Casimero and her staff were able to register 400 new voters and validate old voters for two days.
Registration of new voters by biometric machine began in Tayug in February while validation of old voters started in December last year.-LM
