PNP promote family planning
CAMP BGEN OSCAR M FLORENDO–The police in the Ilocos Region have been tapped by the Commission on Population (POPCOM) to help promote the Responsible Parenting Movement and Natural Family Planning (RPM/NFP).
A memorandum of understanding was signed last week between POPCOM, represented by its regional director Oscar Mabalot, and the Philippine National Police (PNP), represented by regional director, Police Chief Supt. Ramon Gatan.
The MOU seeks to strengthen partnership between the two agencies, starting with the initiation of more than 3,000 couples from the PNP on the RPM/NFP.
“We were asked to assist the POPCOM and the initial targets are PNP couples and then later on they can transfer their knowledge about natural family planning methods with some civilians by giving them lectures,” Gatan told The PUNCH in a phone interview.
Police officers working in the Women’s and Children’s Concerns Desk will also be tapped to become trainors on family planning in the communities.
Mabalot said family planning is crucial, especially now given the continued economic difficulties facing the country.
“I believe that family planning is one of the best inventions of mankind. Let us work together to promote the Responsible Parenting Movement and Natural Family Planning down to the grassroots level,” Mabalot added.#
