Pangasinan, Sichuan ink ties
LINGAYEN–Pangasinan has signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with China’s Sichuan province for the establishment of closer ties and cooperation for economic development.
The MOU was inked in Chengdu, capital of Sichuan province, on August 21 by Governor Amado Espino Jr. and Wei Hong, executive vice governor of Sichuan and a member of the standing committee of the Communist Party of China.
The agreement, in accordance with the principles on the establishment of diplomatic relations between the Philippines and the People’s Republic of China, was a step closer towards the establishment of final sister relationship between the two provinces.
The governor told newsmen at the capitol on Thursday that both Pangasinan and Sichuan will carry out exchanges and cooperate in various forms and activities in the fields of industry, agriculture, trade, science and technology; culture, education, sports, health, personnel, social welfare etc. for the promotion of common prosperity and development.
Espino headed an 18-man delegation to China from August 19 to 26 upon the invitation of Tin Qixiang, the Chinese consul based in Laoag City, who visited Pangasinan in June.
A delegation from Sichuan province, among them businessmen, is set to make an exchange visit to Pangasinan sometime this year to explore possible areas of investment.
The coordination departments for the two provinces will be the Office of the Governor for Pangasinan and the Foreign Affairs Department of Sichuan Provincial People’s government.
The memorandum takes effect immediately and shall remain in force for five years after.
