Laligan elected PTA prexy
TAYUG–Dr. Carlos Lilagan was elected president of the Parents-Teachers Association (PTA) of the Tayug National High School (THNS) under the new PTA set-up ordered by the Department of Education.
TNHS principal Marilyn Bautista said Dr. Liligan was elected president by a 15-man board of directors, 10 of whom represent the parents and five from the rank of teachers as provided for in the guidelines set under Department Order No. 54, Series of 2009 dated July 24, 2009.
The 10 representatives of parents in the board of directors were elected by 51 parent home room presidents from first to fourth years, Bautista said.
Under DepEd Order No. 54, the old Parents, Teachers Community Association (PTCA) should have ceased operations at the end of school year 2008-2009 and given until June 30, 2009 to dissolve, wind up their activities, submit their financial report and turn-over all documents to school heads and school division superintendents, respectively.
The new PTA setting is intended to provide a better forum for the discussion of issues and concerns related to the overall school program and ensure the full cooperation of pa-rents in the effective implementation of such program.
Bautista explained that under the guidelines, the highest position that teachers can fill up in the PTA is that of Secretary.–LM
