SAN FABIAN–Fourth District Rep. Jose de Venecia Jr. is not happy with the recent resolution of the Ombudsman’s clearing President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo and her husband Mike Arroyo of graft charges relating to the botched $329-million ZTE-NBN deal.

“Baligtad na ang mundo,” said De Venecia lamenting the Ombudsman’s decision which indicted former Commission on Elections chairman Benjamin Abalos and former National Economic and Development Authority head, now Social Security System president Romulo Neri.

De Venecia, a former Speaker of the House, said the Senate Blue Ribbon Committee should press on with its investigation and compel the First Gentleman to appear before a hearing and explain his alleged involvement in the shelved contract.

“He has avoided the Senate Blue Ribbon Committee for about two years now claiming that he is sick, that he is not well, that his physician advised him against it but he’s been to Australia, to Europe, to America with the President,” De Venecia said.

“Unless that is done, you cannot write finish to it. This issue continues to bedevil the nation and our people,” he added.

De Venecia’s son, Joey, implicated Arroyo in the anomalous deal through his testimony before the Senate, prompting the political fall-out between De Venecia and the President.

De Venecia said while he no longer harbors anger towards the President and the First Gentleman, still there is a need to “let justice be done”.#
