Dagupan City thanks Bangus Fests volunteers

A VOLUNTEERS Day was held at the CSI Stadia last July 31 to pay tribute to all those who helped make the 2009 Bangus Festival from April 15 to May 2 a huge success.

The affair was initiated by Vice-Mayor Belen Fernandez, chairperson of the Bangus Festival 2009, to acknowledge the efforts and contributions of the different volunteer groups that helped not only in the Bangus Festival but in various activities of the city as well.

“Of course, we always thank them but an event for them is even more fitting,” she said.

“Volunteer service contributes to the success of events especially Bangus Festival, one of the most successful events in our country na pinag-uusapan at hinahangaan sa Norte. Ipagpatuloy natin ang pagkakaisa alay sa ating lungsod,” Mayor Alipio Fernandez said.

In his address during the program, the mayor lauded Vice Mayor Fernandez and cited the success of every event organized under her stewardship.

The gathering was attended by over 800 participants from 21 different groups, namely: the  Latter-Day Saint Light Squadron Unit Seagull & LDS Roverscout; PNRC Dagupan Chapter, Region 1 Medical Center, Kabayan Action Group, Deltacom, Riders Association of Dagupan, Dagupan Communications Spectrum Inc., Kabalikat City Com, Action Inc. Police Hotline, Philippine Guardians Brotherhood Inc-Bayang Bangus, Bangus Riders, BRODI, Barangay Nutrition  Scholars; Day Care Workers, Panda Dagupan, Barangay Service Point, Coastguards, PACG, Scooter Riders and Barangay  Health Workers.

LDS Roverscout leader Ernesto Cabie remarked, “We are thankful for this event because they recognize our efforts and sacrifices, they appreciate us. We hope that they will continue this program so that volunteers will be inspired to continue their duties and responsibilities.”

Some P100,000 worth of  prizes were raffled and given away to the volunteers.—Sunshine E.Mallary
