City oks 2nd pedestrian overpass to market
URDANETA CITY–Another pedestrian overpass will soon be built across the MacArthur Highway here leading towards the second floor of the city market to further spur business activity.
Mayor Amadeo Perez Jr. said the city council has already earmarked P5 million for the second overpass even as construction for the first one, financed by Fifth District Rep. Mark Cojuangco from his Priority Development Assistance Fund (PDAF), has already started.
The first overpass also cuts across Mac Arthur Highway and is connected to the eastern side of the market’s Building No. 2 while the second one will be connected to the northern side of Building No. 1.
Both overpasses, said Perez, will entice prospective investors to relocate at the second floor of the two newly built market, currently the biggest public market not just in Pangasinan but the entire northern Luzon area.
Perez also said the city government has just installed elevators in both public market buildings to complement existing escalator systems.
Market building No. 1 was built by the city from its own funds with additional financial help from President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo and Cojuangco.
Market Building No. 2 was financed from a P140 million loan from the Land Bank of the Philippines.—LM
