Cheaper Medicine Law enforcement starts

DRUGSTORE chains, private and public hospitals in Region 1 are fully complying with the new Cheaper Medicine Law.

Renato Padilla, food and drugs supervisor of the Department of Health-Bureau of Food and Drugs in Ilocos, said that drugstores and hospitals in Dagupan City, Laoag City, Batac and Vigan have brought down by half the prices for 16 generic drugs as mandated by the new law.

At the same time, Padilla, speaking during the Kapisanan ng mga Brodkaster ng Pilipinas and Philippine Information Agency forum last week, warned that his office will continue to check on prices, including those retailed by small or independent drugstores.

Those found violating the law will be warned for their first offense and brought to court if found the second time.

DOH-BFAD, now known as Food and Drug Administration, will also monitor distributors and manufacturers, he added. #
