THE Schools Breakfast Feeding Program in Dagupan City was completed Thursday while another project, the Barangay Feeding Program, was started on Friday.

City Nutrition Officer Leah Aquino said about 13,000 pupils (Grades I to III) in 33 public elementary schools in Dagupan City benefited from the breakfast feeding program sponsored by Vice Mayor Belen Fernandez’s company and the city government.

The CSI Group of Companies and the Jimmy Fernandez Foundation supplied the oatmeal and milk for the city government’s program.

The program was started in 2006 and has since been expanded at the onset of the administration of Mayor Alipio Fernandez in line with his vision to make the city “most child-friendly”.

“It is part of the commitment of the present city administration to improve education of pupils in public schools as they can not study well if they have not eaten their breakfast,” she said.

Records showed that since the breakfast feeding program was launched in tandem with the feeding programs of other agencies, the rate of malnutrition in the city has reduced drastically.

Meanwhile, the new Barangay Breakfast Feeding Program was started in Sitio Guibang, Barangay Pantal last Friday morning, feeding residents oat meal for breakfast.—LM
