Alaminos PWDs get walking aids
ALAMINOS CITY–Persons with disabilities (PWDs) here received 17 wheelchairs, crutches and walkers from the city government in partnership with the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) Region 1.
The recipients thanked Mayor Hernani Braganza for his initiative and to the DSWD during the turn-over rites during the regular Monday flag raising ceremony last week.
“This wheelchair now gives me better access to many activities that I thought I could no longer do after what happened to me,” said 45-year old Elenita Pamo from Barangay Tawin-tawin, who was paralyzed due to a road accident.
Rafael Suyat, another polio victim from Barangay Inerangan who also received a wheelchair, said he will now be able to resume his trade selling balut and repairing umbrellas.
Braganza, for his part, thanked the DSWD for its counterpart contribution to the program.
“We are hoping that (with this equipment), we have provided joy by helping ease their sufferings and of their families and friends who attend to their needs,” he said.
Meanwhile, Braganza also announced that the city will soon have its own hospital, the Hundred Islands Medical Services Complex, to be built in Barangay Bolaney.
“With the full support of our city council and department heads, we will build this hospital for our city-mates, especially those who have less in life, to have better access to quality and free medical and health care services,” he said.
The hospital will house the existing Crisis Intervention Center (CIC) and Stimulation and Therapeutic Activity Center (STAC), as well as Imaging and Diagnostic Laboratories, a Pharmacy, Doctors Clinics and Emergency Facility.#
