ALL eyes were on a three-year old boy and a 73-year old grandfather last July 4 at the Dagupan City Plaza when they were adjudged as the youngest and oldest finishers in the three-kilometer run, a part of a fun run dubbed “Earth Run”.

Adjudged as the youngest finisher was Jhero Christian Lomboy Fama, son of P/Supt. Harris Fama, chief of police of Lingayen, while Floro Vidal was adjudged the oldest finisher.

The two joined the stage when they were awarded their respective special prizes by Assistant Department of Transportation and Communication Assistant Secretary Arturo Lomibao, chief of the Land Transportation Office (LTO), sponsor of the event, along with the city government, City Schools Division and Kiwanis Club of Dagupena.

Jhero Christian ran the 3K distance around Dagupan’s downtown area with his sisters Airis Danielle, 12; and Harleen Gabriele, 9; and brother Harris Mathew, 5.

The kids were joined by their father and their grandmother, Juliana Lomboy, who cheered on the children.

P/Supt Fama said his family had been joining marathons as family affair.

“Joining marathon as a family brings us closer together and develop the kids as sports enthusiast,” he said.

The winner of different categories also received medals and cash prizes.

More than 700 runners from various sectors joined the event.

Kevin Areglado of St. Therese College Foundation took the top spot as he ruled the 5K run for men, followed by Virgen Milagrosa University Foundation’s (VMUF) Elmer John Casildo, and coming in third was Jo de Guzman of University of Luzon.

In the women’s 5K category, Lany Cardona of VMUF took the first place followed by her teammate Vanesa Membrano while Windelyn Carolino of Victory Elementary School came in third.

In the 3K run for boys, John Michael Ocampo of University of Luzon came in first followed by Dagupan City National High School’s Jackson Dacanay while Alexander Jovellanos of PLES finished third.

Fatima Perado of Bonuan Boquig Elementary School ruled the girl’s 3Kcategory followed by Marlene Jay Samson and Nelly Pasaoa, both of the West Central Elem. School I.

Lomibao said the Earth Run was LTO’s way of promoting support for clean   air and help abate the worsening global warming.—LM/CSR
