Rains frustrate Digitel customers

CALASIAO–Subscribers of Digital Telecommunications Philippines, Inc. (Digitel) whose services were suspended when a construction work at the poblacion damaged the company’s underground cables may not have their services restored yet in the days ahead.

Rains have hindered work of the contractor to install new cables that would enable Digitel to restore service to subscribers.

Ainee Jardin, district manager of Digitel in Central Pangasinan, said the company has been flooded with complaints because of the continued delay in restoring the service.

About 600 customers lost their phone connection when the company’s underground cables were accidentally dug by a backhoe while clearing the poblacion area for a road-widening project.

The Department of Public Works and Highways, which has the jurisdiction over the contractor doing the road widening project, said it has been assured by the contractor that priority is being given to to restore the damaged cable.

Meanwhile, Jardin said the continuing theft of their cables remains a major problem for the company.

She urged the police, local officials, barangay tanods, and the people in the community to help them by doubling their vigilance against cable thieves in their respective areas.

She said these thieves hamper their efforts towards improved service.#
