R1MC sets up dengue “express lane”

THE Region 1 Medical Center (R1MC) has put up an “express lane” for people with symptoms of dengue to facilitate consultation and treatment.

Dr. Joseph Roland Mejia, chief of R1MC, said this special lane allowing possible dengue patients to skip the normal admission route at the hospital, is intended to give them priority so that they can be immediately attended to and tested if positive for the deadly disease.

Mejia said dengue has become endemic in the province and in the Philippines as a whole, and the mosquitoes that carry them can cause the infection at any time of the year and not just during the rainy season as commonly believed.

Dr. Michael Canto, R1MC spokesman added that “Ang dengue ginagayaang lahat ng sakit,” which means those infected do not necessarily manifest the same symptoms.

R1MC, a tertiary level 4 government-owned hospital,  is one of the few medical centers north of Manila that has state-of-the-art equipment for Blood Component Therapy and can accommodate a number of dengue patients.—Sunshine Erfe, UPang
