LTO launches road safety campaign

Land Transportation Office (LTO) chief Arturo Lomibao, launched in Dagupan City on July 4 his agency’s national road safety campaign.

Lomibao handed out posters exhorting drivers and pedestrians to exercise discipline to avoid accidents that cost time, finances, and lives.

He said 41 persons die every day as a result of road accidents which, he added, is increasing by five percent yearly.

“We would like to arrest this trend,” Lomibao told newsmen.

Lomibao said Dagupan was the first city in the country where the road safety campaign was launched after its kick off in Manila on July 1.

The posters were received by Executive Assistant Edwin Aguirre and city tourism officer Michelle Lioanag on behalf of the city government.

Lomibao said he will also ask Education Secretary Jesli Lapuz to include a program on awareness for road safety to be integrated in the school curriculum in elementary levels.

LTO will also partner with corporate institutions to help promote the campaign, especially in the malls where people usually congregate on weekends. —LM
