Kimi Cojuangco eyes hubby’s post
LINGAYEN–Sison town Mayor Kimi Cojuangco will run in the 2010 elections as representative for the 5th district, a position that will be vacated by her husband Rep. Mark Cojuangco who will be completing the maximum three terms.
“She will seek to replace me,” Cojuangco said after making a presentation before the Sangguniang Panlalawigan on Monday about a proposed bill on the reopening of the mothballed Bataan Nuclear Power Plant (BNPP).
“I think that the mayor has shown a good example for two years (as mayor) and hopefully if she is accepted in the district, she can set the example, especially for her hometown,” the congressman said.
As for the position of mayor of Sison, where their family-owned Northern Cement Corporation plant is located, Cojuangco said people will just have to “wait-and-see” who will contend for it.
“There is a whole generation of young leaders that should be given a chance,” he added.
Cojuangco also announced that he will no longer be running for any public position, but will continue to be active in the Nationalist People’s Coalition (NPC) party.
“I will pursue my advocacies most especially the BNPP even as a private person even when I’m no longer congressman,” he said.
On another issue, Cojuangco said his cousin, Defense Secretary Gilbert Teodoro, who is bent on running for the presidency in 2010, “is entitled to his own dreams and aspirations and I hope that he will do well in his endeavor”.
The NPC is considering either Senator Francis Escudero or Senator Loren Legarda as the party’s bearer, not Teodoro. #
