FOURTH District Rep. Jose de Venecia Jr. is now in Buenos Aires, Argentina to preside over a meeting of political parties in Asia and Latin America that will discuss issues of poverty, corruption, climate change, terrorism and illegal narcotics trade.

He announced his trip last Sunday when he distributed some 1,200 Philippine Health Insurance cards to indigent families in Dagupan, Mangaldan, San Fabian, San Jacinto and Manaoag.

De Venecia will open the conference as executive committee chairman of the International Conference of Asian Political Parties (ICAPP), composed of 240 Asian political parties from 45 countries.

His counterpart in that conference is Chairman Antonio Cafiuero of the Latin America and Caribbean Political Parties (COPPAL), representing 58 political parties from 29 countries.

The meeting will also discuss De Venecia’s long-time proposal for a global debt-swap plan, without need of new appropriations from the rich G-8 industrial democracies, by converting global debts into anti-poverty projects with debt-service savings to be used for irrigation, mass housing, healthcare, education and to meet the  U.N. Millennium  Development Goals.—LM
