LINGAYEN— Governor Amado Espino, Jr. wants to make the province known as “the home of healthiest and happiest people in the country”.

In his speech during the flag-raising ceremony on Monday at the Capitol plaza here that coincided with the start of the celebration of the 35th Nutrition Month, Espino called on the provincial government employees to do their share to make his vision come true.

The governor said the momentum has been created in the past two years, with the simultaneous renovation and rehabilitation of all 14 government hospitals and the establishment of a Dialysis Center at the Pangasinan Provincial Hospital (PPH) in San Carlos City

He also cited the enrollment of some 185,000 indigent families with the Philippine Health Insurance Corporation (Phil-Health).

Pangasinan has the most number of enrollees in the country’s health to date and its universal enrollment in PhilHealth is now considered as a model throughout the world.

Meanwhile, Dr. Jackson Soriano, Officer-in- Charge of the Provincial Health Office,  said his office has lined up a nutrition forum, brushing of teeth and handwashing activities in all barangays in the province, deworming and feeding projects for malnourished public elementary school pupils as activities for the month-long Nutrition Celebration.—LM
