Brothers banned from barangay sports

TWO brothers have been banned from participating in any sports event in Barangay Bonuan Gueset following their unsportsmanlike and unruly conduct that nearly led to a brawl in a recent basketball game.

The Sangguniang Barangay issued a resolution prohibiting Jorge Ceralde and his younger brother Gerardo Ceralde from participating either as coaches, referees, players or team officials in any sports event sponsored by the Sangguniang Barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan for the duration of the tenure of incumbent officials of the barangay.

Gumarang said that Gerardo, a basketball referee, slapped one of the game’s referees while his brother was questioning the call made by another referee during the championship game of the Inter-Color Basketball Tournament at the Policarpio Ceralde Spectrum

The Ceralde brothers were banned for their “direct assault, grave oral defamation and threats” against Barangay Chairman Angel Gumarang on June 28 when the latter tried to intervene.

Gerardo was earlier meted a three-game suspension in the same tournament for his involvement in a brawl with a basketball player in a previous game. —LM
