CALASIAO–The six popular seafood restaurants in the province that were padlocked by the Bureau of Internal Revenue (BIR) for failure to pay the right amount of taxes, are now back in business after settling their dues.

Lawyer Tomas Rosales, BIR regional director based here, told The PUNCH that the closure order has been lifted against Matutina’s two restaurants in Bonuan, Dagupan City as well as its branch in Urdaneta City; Silverio’s Restaurant in Dagupan and Binmaley; and Nena’s Garden in Dagupan.

Rosales said the owners paid their first quarter 2009 tax dues in full corresponding to the correct amount of sales declared, but added that they are expected to voluntarily amend their second quarter dues.

Meanwhile, Rosales said they have already lined up other industries that will be subjected to the Oplan Kandado, a BIR campaign aimed at going after businesses that do not declare and pay the correct taxes.

“With this initial closure, we hope it will serve as a wake-up call for other business establishment owners to mend their ways,” he said.#
